Wynner’s Club

Just got back from the city that never sleeps full and tired. This past weekend I set out to try and find some of the best pizza in the city. How else would I know if it was good or not? I had to eat it. Now, don’t get me wrong… I love pizza! But back to back slices to see which ones are worth the time or not is tiring! But don’t worry, I have a solid start list for you all to use as a guide for pizza next time you’re in the Big Apple. I was also curious about the most hyped up places in the city like Joe’s. I do not hold back from my opinions on each place so continue reading to see what I have to say.

please note: I tried to get pizza spots in different areas in NYC but I was only there for a weekend, so I tried my best. I will be including some places that I didn’t try but seemed to have great reviews online to give you guys more options. As always, I will be updating this list with more places as I continue to travel to NYC.

Prince St Pizza

27 Prince St A, New York, NY 10012

What I Ordered: Spicy Spring (square) pepperoni cup slice.

How I Liked It: At first glance, the slice looks DELICIOUS. The spicy pepperonis are cooked to perfection. Once I took a bite though the inside was still doughy, which honestly was a huge let-down. The consistency of the dough was chewy and thick. While the crust was nice and crunchy, the dough in the middle was difficult to ignore. The pepperonis and cheese were both outstanding on their own. The sauce was also a little too thick for my liking.

Rating: 6/10. Overall, I would eat this again BUT I would not wait in line for it nor would I go out of my way to check it out.

Scarr’s

22 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002

What I Ordered: A pepperoni slice.

How I Liked It: Scarr’s was a highly anticipated visit for me. After seeing Alex Dalaney rave about it for months, I knew I had to add it to my list. Scarr’s ended up being phenomenal. Everything about that slice was perfect. The crust was thin but not flimsy to where the toppings and cheese fall off, which means the bottom was perfectly cooked. The slice was salty and sweet at the same time, the combo of flavors was beyond delicious. After I was done eating, I didn’t feel bloated or heavy which is an A+ in my book. A fun fact about Scarr’s, they mill their own grains every day in their basement.

Rating: 11/10.

Saraghina

435 Halsey St, Brooklyn, NY 11233

What I Ordered: Prosciutto & Funghi Pizza

How I Liked It: Saraghina is definitely a cozy neighborhood sit down restaurant. It’s perfect for date night or a girl’s brunch. I recommend making a reservation for this spot as it does get pretty busy on the weekends. The pizza was super good. The mushrooms on the pie reminded me of the mushroom pizza at the Matador Room in Miami Beach. Flavorful and the saltiness from the prosciutto was the cherry on top. Paired with the wine on the menu and this an ideal dinner meal.

Joe’s Pizza

7 Carmine St, New York, NY 10014

What I Ordered: A pepperoni slice.

How I Liked It: This slice was terrible, y’all. I’m sure the hype surrounding this place made it more terrible than it already was though. I went to the Joe’s location near Times Square last year and remember thinking it was good but just okay, but I had received messages saying I went to the wrong one and needed to go to the one on Carmine. So this trip to NYC, I did. Y’all, no. First off, the pepperoni’s on the slice tasted and looked like they had gone on the pizza after the pizza was already cooked. The slice was dry, the cheese was not memorable. The crust was fine I guess compared to everything else. Skip the hype and go somewhere else.

Patzeria

231 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036

What I Ordered: A pepperoni slice.

How I Liked It: I loved this slice! It tasted like how you think a New York slice is supposed to taste like. It’s the right amount of greasy, the cheese is thick and ooey, and the crust is crispy. I could definitely eat a whole pie of their pizza. Would I travel to this spot just for the pizza? Absolutely.

Roberta’s

261 Moore St, Brooklyn, NY 11206

What I Ordered: Lil’ Stinker Pie

How I Liked It: So I have a confession. I ordered the wrong pizza. I clearly can’t read and while I was looking at the menu, I was looking for a pie that had Pepperoni. Well, I was reading and somehow thought I read PEPPERONI but instead, it was pepperoncini (which is a type of pepper). The Lil’ Stinker comes with tomato, mozzarella, Parmigiano, double garlic, onion, and pepperoncini. I remember being so upset when I opened the box. But nonetheless, for an $18 pie, I ate it because I don’t have anything against the ingredients – I just didn’t read the description correctly. The pizza was GOOD. The mozzarella cheese was delicious and the sauce was super light yet flavorful. The pizza was a little spicy due to the pepper but it was fine. I would for sure come here again and maybe order the “Cheesus Christ” pie or the “Millennium Falco” pie.

Best Pizza

33 Havemeyer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211

What I Ordered: A pepperoni slice.

How I Liked It: Amazing! First of all, the vibe inside of Best Pizza was unmatched, from the music playing, the paper plate art, and the set-up. It felt like your local pizza spot that you and your friends chill at before a night out. Now the slice. It had the right amount of salty (from cheese/pepperoni) and sweet (from the sauce). The cheese melts in your mouth and the slice itself is foldable, making it easier to eat. This pizza won’t weigh you down after you eat it. Best Pizza should change its name to Better Pizza, to be honest.

Vinnie’s

148 Bedford Ave (between 8th St & 9th St), Brooklyn, NY 11211

What I Ordered: A pepperoni slice.

How I Liked It: Vinnie’s is SO good. Vinnie’s reminded me of Patzeria in terms of this is what you would think a New York slice should taste like. It had the right amount of grease, cheese was flavorful and ooey, and the pepperoni’s were delicious. Don’t let the exterior of this place fool you, this spot is legit. This is the kind of pizza I would order a pie for. The music playing at this spot was also a favorite of mine, 00’s r&b and hip-hop.
