Wynner’s Club

Hello, all! I hope it’s been a bomb 2020 so far! I’ve been busy working and getting some goals in line for Wynee’s World and my wedding! But enough about me, here’s the real reason I’m here, if you live in the Charlotte area or plan on visiting soon… I have some taco plans for you. Me and my friend Chris (@rodartes.corner) set out to try really delicious tacos in Charlotte to share with y’all. We ate a lot of tacoooos, but for #research of course!

I don’t know if has been said before but Mexican is my favorite kind of food so I was elated with this tour. This will be an ever growing list as I try more tacos but without further ado, here are some must try tacos in Charlotte:

Tacos El Peladito:

349 Copperfield Blvd NE Unit K, Concord, NC 28025.

A bit outside of Charlotte but Concord still technically counts! El Peladito compared to the rest of places we visited, was good. I don’t think there was anything special about this place that would make me want to drive to Concord to visit them, but if I was in the area I wouldn’t mind going back.

Their Suadero and Chorizo tacos though? DELISH. I’ve never had a Suadero taco but at El Peladito this particular taco was delicious. Suadero is the thin cut of meat from the intermediate part of the cow or pork between the belly and the leg. Suadero has a smooth texture rather than a muscle grain. It reminded me of an Asada taco, tbh.

Tacos El Peladito

Las Lupitas:

5210 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28213.

Ok, so technically this isn’t a taco spot (it’s a butcher shop) but you can order freshly made tortillas + meats to make yourself a taco. I recommend this spot as a take-out place. We ordered a pound of tortillas + half a pound of barbacoa and made ourselves some tacos! The barbacoa was out of this world! It was tender, flavor was bold but not spicy, and with the tortilla? killer.

The corn tortillas at Las Lupitas are unbelievable and extra fresh. They’re made in house every day and you can even look in the back to the area that they’re making them it. The texture is smooth and the tortilla itself is very soft. The staff at Las Lupitas speak minimal English.

Ely Tortilleria:

6301 N Tryon St Suite 112, Charlotte, NC 28213.

My favorite taco spot in Charlotte. Ely is consistent when it comes to their tacos. If you want to read some of the top cheap eats in Charlotte, click here. When I first moved into my apartment, I was on the hunt for some authentic tacos in Charlotte and Ely’s kept coming up. I probably crave their tacos at least once a week and it doesn’t help that I can get there in under 10 minutes. From the chicken, pork, and asada tacos… they are just so good all the time. The sauces that they have are my favorite with just the right amount of spice.

On tuesdays, select tacos are only .99 cents! Add sides to your tacos like I do with their rice and beans. I usually only get take-out but they do have tables where you can sit down and enjoy your meal.

El Taco Veloz:

 6701 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28213.

First things first, they give you FREE cheese dip with your chips. Yes, on top of your salsa, they bring out cheese dip. Talk about a big pro!? Second note, their margaritas are huuuuge and they are cheap. But what about their tacos? Their tacos were good but nothing special out of this world – I would eat them again but probably would not crave them. I would visit El Taco Veloz again and order something different like fajitas or one of their bigger plates. I really enjoyed the cheese dip and the margarita which I feel like will be my go-to when I go back.

Tacos El Nevado:

4715 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205.

4640 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28209.

El Nevado has two locations and we visited the one on Central Ave. My friends say that the one on South Blvd is a little bit better, but I would have to visit that one to truly compare both. I ordered the Chorizo and Pork taco. I usually never order chorizo tacos but I wanted to eat one that day and guys, that chorizo taco was the truth! The chorizo was tender, a bit spicy, and very moist. The pork taco was also out of this world. The seasoning on both the meats were the star of the show. The tortillas tasted home made and the sauces were the perfect balance for flavors.

If you’re a night owl, you’ll be happy to hear that from Thursday – Sunday, El Nevado on Central closes at 2am. I don’t know about you, but drunk tacos sound amazing.

Tacos El Regio:

8829 E W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28227.

My friend, Javi (@QC_Javi) deems this spot, his favorite taco. So you know we had to check it out! So from what Javi told us, we had to get the Trompo taco (pork taco). This pork taco was different as the pieces of the pork are bigger and cut from the vertical rotisserie. So the way you have to eat these tacos according to Javi is you have to order the tacos with cheese. Once the tacos come out, you add grilled onions and pineapple chunks, and i can’t lie that taco was pure perfection. I also ordered a chorizo taco because we came here right after El Nevado but it was a pretty crappy taco, so I would only recommend the Trompo!

I ate 2 of the Trompo taocs but could have easily ate 5 they were so good!

I hope you guys enjoy this list and hopefully there are a couple you didn’t know about before! Before I started this blog, I had an instagram page dedicated to tacos with a friend. I love Mexican food and I love tacos so this post will be periodically updated with more taco spots as I continue trying them!

If you have any questions about any of these places, please feel free to reach out!
