One of my goals this year was to explore more around my home state (North Carolina), so lately I’ve been making it a point to travel by taking lots of road trips. Knowing that I have the ability to explore the mountains (up to Tennessee), or head to the beach all within a couple of hours, motivates me to do it even more! Wherever you’re from, you should totally try to be a tourist in your own area. We sometimes get so caught up in our day-to-day that we forget how beautiful the world around us is.
So a few weekends ago, Trae and I decided to head up towards Erwin, Tennessee for a getaway, while passing through a couple of our favorite North Carolina cities like Lake Lure, Asheville, and Weaverville.
It was still hot out when we arrived at our destination around 4pm, and finding ways to cool down in the summertime can be tough! But lucky for us, we had stopped by Ingles in Asheville to pick up our favorite Tillamook products. We were really impressed to see how much Ingles had to offer and easily chose all of our Tillamook faves. Tillamook has a variety of creamy ice cream flavors to choose from like Mudslide (my favorite), Oregon Strawberry, and Vanilla Bean which is Trae’s favorite flavor. As part of Tillamook’s Dairy Done Right philosophy, there are no artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners, and no high fructose corn syrup. Talk about a delicious way to cool down before settling into our getaway spot for the night!
The following morning, we decided it was time to jump back in the car for a scenic drive through the mountains. We packed road trip snacks including our Tillamook Farmstyle Thick Cut Sharp Cheddar Cheese Slices and Tillamook Colby Jack Snack Cheese, which are pretty perfect for cravings on the road. We drove down towards Mars Hill and soaked up this view long enough to picnic on the grilled cheese sandwiches we had packed knowing that we’d need something to fill us up for lunch.
My favorite thing about the Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Cheese is that it’s aged for nine months in order to get the sharpness just right! I also enjoy their farmstyle, thick cut cheese slices because it’s a thicker slice, you just get more goodness in one bite. I love that I can use just a few slices to load up my grilled cheese for the perfect bite.
On our way home Sunday, we popped into Ingles one last time to pick up more Tillamook cheese and to grab another flavor, or two, of their ice cream. I hope this post gave you the motivation to take an end-of-summer mini getaway! Follow the link to learn where you can pick up Tillamook at your local market, here.
