Haberdish = the quintessential Charlotte restaurant. When people think about Charlotte, they usually don’t think about a foodie city. Slowly but surely, that’s changing. Jeff Tonidaniel and his wife Jamie Brown have created a new path for restauranteurs in Charlotte. The couple currently own 4 restaurants in the artsy neighborhood of NoDa and are working on their fifth concept.
In a city that’s still obsessed with restaurant chains, Haberdish is a fresh breathe of air. For amazing southern food and divine cocktails, this is your place.
Let’s start with the appetizers. You have options that range from livermush toast (yuuum), pimiento cheese balls, hushpuppies, and a PB and J Bacon plate. My favorites are the hushpuppies and the livermush toast. If you want to stay with a more classic appetizer, you won’t go wrong with the biscuits and bacon jam.
Moving along to the entrees. It’s no secret that chicken is their specialty. If it’s your first time visiting I highly recommend getting any kind of chicken. I always opt for the 2pc dark fried or if I’m with my boyfriend we get the half chicken because he likes the white meat and it comes out cheaper than ordering them separately.
Haberdish’s chicken is mildly spicy, crunchy, and it melts in your mouth. Another amazing option besides the fried chicken is the smoked chicken. The smoked chicken comes engulfed in a delicious horseradish like sauce (Alabama white sauce to be exact). The combination of these flavors will have you asking for seconds.

Moving on to my FAVORITE part: the sides. The sides at Haberdish kill the game. My absolute favorite dish here is the Mac & Cheese with fried chicken skins. If you’re a mac & cheese lover (or not) this needs to be on your order queue. As a side note, the mac & cheese is spicy which makes it addicting.
Other notable side dishes are the Tator Tots (crispy af on the outside), Sweet Potato Dumplings (drool), and the Kale Grits.
Now let’s talk about cocktails. Their cocktail program ups the game in Charlotte. Although I haven’t tried every cocktail on their menu, I’m certain that I would enjoy each and every one of them.
Pictured here are both the “Where You Need To Be” and the ginormous, perfect for brunch Punch Bowl. I truly believe their cocktail program has elevated and inspired many others around them. You can’t go wrong with them & they’re all so “instagrammable”.

All in all, the menu at Haberdish is familiar & homey which makes it the perfect introduction to Charlotte for any new-comer or tourist. And if you haven’t been able to tell by now, so far it’s my favorite spot in Charlotte.
Until next time!
